3837, Tubing Leadbetter 11/2

After a lot of intel gathering, I drove up to SB and was able to try the point with Pete Wolf ("leapinbass"). We met for the first time at 6 am (email only up until now) and were on our way out by in our tubes by 6:20. Larry Heron (calicohunter) and Rob Belloni (swimbait) gave us some insider info. Larry suggested we try for the calicos in 25-30 feet, this meant a long kick out about a 1/4 mile (probably a 1/3 of a mile since we launched diagonal to the spot due to surf off the point). We were passed by a couple lobster boats who probably thought we were nuts. The sky was overcast and we found little current out there. After several short bites we scored a couple barely legals. The current started to run uphill and laid the kelp down. Pete gets bit and it turns out to be a 27" flattie. We also tried inside in about 10-15 feet for nothing. Larry mentioned we should work up to the lighthouse--you crazy Larry? That has to be another 1/2 mile up the line, lol! All fish we on the 4 and 5 inch Big Hammers. All released including the halibut which Pete tagged. Done by 11 am.
