4218, What a difference a day makes
Posted by bassnet, Sun Dec-09-01 06:00 PM
Launched out of DP this morning, the air was cold but still the offshores and really clear- got a decent mix of dines and chovies from Gundy, and headed towards Laguna looking for some calicos early before we started the halibut program. The early offshore breeze was cold! Once around the point, we were out of the wind for the most part, but heading towards Aliso you could see the wind coming out of the canyon, crossing Aliso the air got so cold my face felt like I was on a chair lift! Unfortunetly, no current, the bass didn't want to chew, but nice and warm by 8 or so. Headed back down to the SC pier area to drift for butts, graph took a dump, great. Still no current. Onshore wind picked up early, you could tell it was gonna get messy. We headed back towards the point, at least now the boat was moving and we were drifting- couple of shorts, one fat sandy, then the wind really picked up. Salvaged the day with a fat 28" butt off Capo, back at the barn by 11:30. Not at all like yesterday, but way better then tomorrow, Monday morning, ouch!

Nice outing--good you guys got in when you did, it got out-of-control snotty around 1130-12ish--victory at sea. Saw it on our drive from CDM down to Laguna. Nice brunch day though. My buddy was up in Redondo this AM, never got past the breakwater.

yeah, I talked to my friend back at the harbor, they were fishing the domes in an 18' whaler, got their a$$es beat on the way home- they did get a nice BSB, released in 40' of water, swam back down like a champ.
4223, Nice Flattie Chris!

Good job on the flattie! I surffished Saturday(first time in a few months)--only got 3 surfperch, but the weather was beautiful! Considered it again on Sunday, but before I left, the wind started picking up(10AM)...I could tell it was going to get messy, so I bailed and cleaned my aquarium instead. What a difference a day makes is right!
