Spent Sunday at a friend's trailer/beach house on Crystal Cove in Laguna. Good food, friends, football and baseball with the kids, and fishing. Between my son and I we only managed 6 perch. 5 on a 2" Yamamoto Ika tube with my "special" pro-cure/hot sauce oil mix (hah!), and a mini perch on a 3" hammer. All on a slow retrieve. No sandcrabs found. I had a good something (corbina, halibut, small shark?) hooked up and heading out to sea when a breaking wave broke me off. I had inadvertently picked up a reel with 2#, instead of 6# test. Could barely cinch the knots w/o breaking. That evening we saw a whale frolicking right outside the whitewater in probably 10ft of water. One guy said it was scraping barnacles off by rolling in the sand.

My friend who owns the house sees lots of fish by the south point, in the surf and in his kayak. Says there's a reef and kelp about 150yds out. Saw some guys working it in a boat. Couldn't fish the point from the sand with the surfers, and I didn't want to brave the cold water in the kayak. The north end has some rocks that look reachable with a long cast, but we didn't venture that far.

I've never fished there, but don't live too far from there...definitely lots of life around there...sounds like you had a fun time!
