"L.B. Harbor/Pier J"

Decided to do a little after work fishing. Launch out of South shore launch. I really like this launch area, it's never crowded. Started fishing around 7pm.. We where throwing some 4in.storms in a lime color. Third cast....I hook up w/ a short 20in. WSB. Now I'm thinking, ok maybe there is a school of shorts and I should move. Just as that thought come through BAM my buddy hooks up another short WSB. He caught his on a spinnerbait. So we move around to the Pier J area for some bass. By the way the WSB where caught right next to the QueenMary. Pier J sucked, only one calico caught(15in)...Moved back to the Sprucegoose area and hada decent pick at some sandies. I was surprised not to catch any spotties.
Totals

2 short WSB
8 Sand bass (all legal, biggest about 3lbs)
1 Calico
All caught on spinnerbaits and storms.

Don, how much does that ramp cost? Is it a safe place (i.e break-ins)? I heard cabrillo is not real safe. How is distance to the wall compared to davies ramp? Maybe faster since there's no speed limit like in alamitos...

Hey David,

The cost is 5.00. There is no kiosk just a machine you feed. As far as safety is conerned. I would not have great input, since I only been there about 5x. I normally launch after work during the week and there is usually only about two or three others there. Overall it seems pretty safe. When we return at night it's pretty quiet.

As far as the wall goes....I guess it is closer it terms of being able to throttle up faster than davies. Plus davies seems to be a bit busier. Also we are only a few hundred yards away from a spot we like to fish then moving out around those local islands is easy. We have not tried the wall as of yet. We will soon though.

David,
I went to Catalina for the weekend and passed by the South Shores launch area and it appeared that getting to the Wall may be a little faster because you can throttle up quicker. The middle section looks to be a pretty straight shot from the ramp area. I think I am going to give it a shot my next time out.
