I've had good luck at La Conchita Beach, just south of Rincon along Hwy 101 between Ventura and Santa Barbara. I head north from Ventura and use the Bates Road exit as a u-turn to head south back towards the short stretch of Hwy 101 where you can park on the side of the road. Yes, Hwy 101 has a parking lane in front of La Conchita Beach. I park there, hop over the cement wall snd scramble down a few boulders (maybe 15'). I've found the surf to be fairly light there and the surf perch seem to be willing. I caught 9 surf perch on my fly rod the last time I was there. They were fairly small but I had a blast. I try to time my outings to be on the beach at dawn and I like to fish an incoming tide. I should be there this coming Friday (Sept 6th)

I've been told that there are corbina and halibut along this stretch of sandy beach but I haven't lucked into one of these yet. Maybe on my next trip.

Yes, I agree that area is my favorite spot too. Ignore the "Emergency Parking Only" signs and park against the cement wall, and climb down the rocks. I went on Sunday morning, didn't get anything, but I saw about 5 corbina all cruising around in about 12 inches of water.

In the past, this area has produced perch for me, and my best outing was about 15 perch in an hour and a half. Try motor oil or rootbeer colored grubs. My friend even hooked a corbina here using a 2" grub. Try this spot and post your results. Tight Lines!
