If you haven't broken off using 20 or 25lb line to attach your stingers, its only a matter of time, trust me. There's not enough stretch with a 2" piece of mono to absorb the shock. Even if you don't grind your fish in hard, sooner or later you'll hook a fish that jumps and twists or dives straight down under the boat and it'll go plink! and bye bye.

If you want to use mono to attach stingers, don't go any lighter than 40# test. If you go the braided line route, just make sure you have a good proven knot. Done correctly, braided line works fine but if your knot isn't perfect it can pull out. You also have to keep an eye for frays in braid. I personally use 60# coated wire for my stingers because I know I'll always break the main line before I break 60# wire. It might seem like overkill, but you never know when the big one might hit.
