10499, Japanese Catfish on the big bait-Report
Posted by Capt. G, Wed Jun-11-08 04:26 AM
After working a short (for me) day, 9am to 9pm, I got a call from Evil E, and it was on--Ninja Bass Session, 187, 1091.
We did more illegal stuff--we ever walked outside the crosswalk when crossing the street on a green light.
There were two dudes on our fav spot, so we opted to fish another pond.
We could manage only three bass to 2 1/2 pounds so we said "災厄”and bailed to fish for Japanese Catfish.
For some reason, Japanese catfish luv big topwater baits. I always thought catfish, like the channel cats I used to catch in Cali, on chunks of mackerel, were bottom feeders. Here, everyone gets them on topwater, so catfish, or Namazu, are considered a topwater feeder.
Catfish are easy to catch, and fight harder than bass.
We chose the Saho river, and concentrated on the fast running white water.

E caught the big fish of the night, as usual, on an 8 inch, big bait.

I got a couple of decent cats on a Small, single joint MS Slammer.
The key was to reel the lure on the surface, cross current.

A good time was had by all.
Capt. out.
