397, Castaic soft trout

Does anyone know where the six inch Castaic Soft Trout baits can be purchased at in northern California? I saw in the WON Bass supplement that they are being sold at Angler's Marine for $10.99. Any information on when or where they can be purchased would be appreciated.

Just curious, has anyone seen one of the six inch models? How do they compare to the nine inch sizes? Thanks.

I saw the 12" at Bass World West. Big lure with a teeny hook. Haven't seen the 6" for sale yet. Could be kind of a cool bait.

Basicly they look like the larger version, and like Rob said, lotso plastic, notso big hook. Seen em in San Luis Obispo for round 8 or so buckers.

Joel,
I think he is talking about the trout lure with the bill, not the swimbait. I would guess that the 6" Castaic Trout will be at least $20. The 12" Castaic Trout is a monster. I'm sure it will catch some big fish, but like I said, the one little hook really leaves something to be desired. There's way too much real estate where the fish could hit that 12" lure and not get hooked.

I think you always make way too big a deal over the hook setup on the Castaic. It's a really easy lure to rig a second treble with. And with that second treble you should hook about as many fish as you do with a Slammer.

Complaining about the original setup is like refusing to buy a Slammer because the stock hooks aren't sharp enough.

I have some pretty strong opinions on this subject I guess, and personally I never had much luck when I went through the phase of trying to rig up trailer hooks on all of my big rubber trouts. Maybe I didn't put enough effort into the Castaic trout so I gave up on it too early.

Maybe rather than me bitching about it, we should change this into a discussion of how to rig a trailer on the Castaic trout. I know you had a way that seemed to be working Nicolo, and Ryan had a setup that was working for him too. I have no doubt that if you threw it long enough you could probably draw some big strikes on the 12" Castaic trout. To me it's just a question of how do you hook those bites?

Here is that thread when we talked about this before
