48 quarts is 12 gallons. You don't have to fill it to capacity. Five fish will stay alive (with proper circulation and aeration) in that size of cooler with less water, therefore eliminating some weight. Also, if you recess the livewell below the top of the pontoon but above the water, the boat won't be top heavy.
