16779, Clear Lake isn't so clear
Posted by markchaussee, Sat Oct-04-03 02:59 PM
Just got back from a trip to Clear Lake (Saturday Oct4th). On the water at 7am and off at noon. Water clarity is like chocolate milk and the weeds are out of control from the banks all the way out 300 feet. Wonder how this lake got its name? I spent most of my time pulling weeds from everything I was throwing. Did manage to nail a decent 2.5lber and missed another that exploded on a popper but wouldn't commit. That was it, and it was only 7:30am. Not a single bite after that. Hope things improve as water continues to cool. Lots of baitfish on the surface appeared to be minnows. Going to be a tough tournament! I'm planning on making another trip this week possibly on Wednesday if anyone is interested let me know.

Mark

i just read recently about a problem in lucerne, at the filtration plant. it was on the fritz for awhile and alot if the hydrilla mats got caught in the system, and shut it down. their has been a lot of dredging lately in lucerne. the small town is on a boil your water first alert.this is probably whats bringing in the chocolate..... as for the bite, its been not bad at all...i think we'll be just fine...water is a bit higher than last year... late... ..Deren.:7

There was a tournament last weekend that produced some awesome results so you must be right, the bite is good if you find the pattern. Topwater bite seemed to be over by 8:00am. I obviously need more experience on this lake. Hopeing will get out a few more times before the tournament and find some hotspots.

Lower Lake area, I think it was called something like Albatross. I'm going back to try the points around Clear Lake State Park this coming Wednesday. I read a report that claimed bite was good around points on crankbaits during the day.

Hey now Bill! Mark, I'm with Deren, fish State on the points, plenty of good fish there }(

Good meeing you Mark, as you saw Joe and I went across the lake to no avail (a whopping 11"er).

We ended up doing ok further up the lake. Did not find much of a crank bite but did get a few on spinnerbaits and senko's. That was all within an hour and a half. The rest of the day was spent driving.

Oh, for the rest of you boyz fish Redbud all day long, it's gotta be the hot spot right now }(

On a more serious note,I was thinking about doing something different this time. The old flipping to the bucket isn`t much of a casting contest in my opnion any ideas from anybody out there?Iwas kinda thinking maybe a tarp with a bullseye target with different point amounts within the rings casting from about 20yds,addup 5 casts worth of points and top 5 go to a playoff round. Is that lame?Or do ya think that might be a little more challenging.Once again I`m open to ideas.Bill

Hey, we've had some interesting votes in the past... x(

On a more serious note, what do you guys think of having a number of targets (30 ft, 45 ft, 60 ft), each further out and you have to hit each one in sequence then start over. Something like they used to have at the Intl Sportsman Expos except with three targets. Give each participant two minutes then eliminate.

Oh, BTW John, what would you like to help out on? Does it feel weird to be just a participant rather than running the show :P

It actually is kinda nice to just be one of the angerles but I could help out with anything you guys would like me to do.

The casting contest with diffrent buckets at diffrent distance's is cool. We did that type of set up at the Delta Open and it makes it a lot more fun and challenging

That idea sounds cool.John how did you guys do the scoring?
16820, RE: Clear Lake isn't so clear
Posted by Lake, Tue Oct-07-03 10:39 AM
We did it based on time...you had x amount of time to hit as many targets as you could but you had to hit all the targets before you could rehit a target for the 2nd time. It cool to have like the top 10 or 5 advance to another round with the same course with less time. A total of 5 buckets is the way to go....doing it this way makes for a fairly long round 1 but then it tightens up after that. Its a lot of fun, I might give it a try :)
