Coolest thing is that all three of us contributed a fish to the winning bag. Pete and I brought on Dave Abeelen from Team FrankJawn as our number 3 for the banger. I have probably fished the wall a half a dozen times in my life but it has been good to us lately. After winning the second leg of the SWBA Finale last year we finally had some confidence on the wall.

The shot gun start is just to cool, watching 40+ boats hammer the throttle and rip across the bay, is something you just have to experience. We got on fish pretty much right away with Pete putting a legal sandy and Dave putting a 2+ calico on board right off the bat. I was getting bit but I just couldn’t connect. Pete was throwing the Big Hammer 6.5 inch Silver Mackerel and I think Dave got his on a crank. Pete got us really excited with this SLUG 7 Lb. 12 Oz. Cabby. He gets ripped on the swimbait and was bent hard. To bad it wasn’t a bass.

After that I got on the board with a decent calico for our number 3. Then we all just picked away at fish on the Big Hammers in redrum and prizm purple, with Pete putting a 3+ sandy in the tank. We were sitting on about 7 pounds at that point. I switched to the creature bait and was bouncing it along the bottom. I felt it bounce up and on to a rock. As it comes down the other side, I fell the lightest tick, it was really more like a fresh water bass bite. I wound down on it and it got nice and heavy. A 3.6 Calico, not huge but a solid fish and a great cull. Caught on a rod that Capt. Larry sold me to replace the one I lost at the CCOC. Shimano Calcutta XFA 810. Thanks Cappy.

That fish gave us like 9.1 pounds and the win. Congratulations to Capt. Steve Greanias and Avo Oughourlian from Team Farmers Daughter for getting second place and getting big fish for the night, a 4.25 Calico.

Thanks Bobby Peck and all of the folks on the committee boat for all the hard work in putting this together and keeping the Wall Banger tradition alive.

Bryan
