Convinced the kids it wasn't too cold and windy to head down to the beach. Met Bryan there around 6:00 pm. Bite was somewhat picky but we found a few short halibut. When we left Bryan had 3, I had 2 and my daughter Sara had one. Fish were in the 12 to 18 inch range (I think - we didn't measure them and it's been a while... I'm thinking if we measured them I'd be saying 14 to 16 inch range but who knows). Bryan was still fishing and got his third just as we were leaving so he could've picked a few more.

The highlight of my night... I was casting for Sara and handing her the rod as soon as the lure hit the water. She had the retrieve down pretty good. Then out of the corner of my eye I see the rod snap down. She had this funny look on her face (never felt an actual fish hit a lure before). Missed that one but she hung in there and a little while later I looked away for a few seconds, turned back to see her rod bent over.

Bryan's fish were on a rip bait. Sara and my fish were on a 3 inch Silver Phantom colored Hammer on a white 1/4 oz. head.

Too much fun!

Nothing better than seeing kids catching fish.

What kind of a retrieve are you finding effective?
