#14705, "SB 6-13-09 Wackin da flats"

Fished the low this morning 6:30 to 11:00

Started off with the 3 inch Big Hammer Silver Phantom

5 casts in, I get bit and it's on. Was a solid 25 inch class flat which I proceeded to dump a couple of feet from shore. Doh! Followed it up with a 20 inch and lost another I never saw.

Switched to the rip and wacked another two fish including this solid 25 incher. Then went through a big dry spell.

Decided I needed to change it up again but wasn't sure what it should be. Now in times like this I go to a higher power. I decided to consult the electronic Magic 8 Ball that is built into a clip on watch I keep attached to my pack. It has been strangly accurate in the past.

It went something like this.

Me: Magic 8 Ball, I'm I gonna catch another legal?
Magic 8 Ball: Yes! (thats good news)
Me: Is it going to be on the Silver Phantom?
Magic 8 Ball: Nope
Me: Is it going to be on the rip bait?
Magic 8 Ball: No Way!
Me: Is it going to be on the redrum?
Magic 8 Ball: Sure

So I switched.

3 casts later
Another solid 24.5 incher

Got on a nice bite and did another 3 fish and lost another that I never saw.

It was a fun morning.

7 flats with 2 legals
3 fish dumped including another solid legal

Bryan

P.S. - Whlie chucking the rip, I got boiled on big time, like the biggest boil I have ever had, but it missed. 2 casts later in the same spot I got boiled on again except this time it was two boils at the same time. Again they missed. Couldn't get them to go again, but the redrum legal came on my first cast in that same spot about 1 hour later.

Bryan what is the set-up (Rod,Reel, and line) that you use with the pointer, and the Hammer?

Thanks!

To fish is to live!

Shimano Compre CPS-X77 MLB
7'7" 4-12 Lb. 1/16 - 3/8 Power: Med Light X-Fast action

Shimano Stradic 4000 FH

P-Line 8Lb. CXX Moss Green

It seems to be a great setup for what I do. Sensitive enough to finesse fish the swimbait and stiff enough for good hook sets and for throwing the rip.
