#1904, " 5/9 WSB on the Aztec"

Last Sunday was my dads b-day i told him I would take him white sea bass fishing. So wednesday nite we jumped on the Aztec out of Pierpoint Landing. The boat took us to Catalina Isalnd. It took us a while but we finally had to buy squid from a light boat. At about 5:30 the yellows acme thru. Out of about 15 hookups the boat got 7. My dad ended up getting one at about 18 pounds. Then we made a move of about 200 yards to the opposite side of the cove and away from the kelp. Then the seabass went stupid. I hooked and lost 2 , landed one about 15 lbs and handed another off to a guy who couldn't get bite. My dad also landed a sea bass of about 15lbs. These were the first whites for me and my dad. The whole boat had limits by 7:30. At one point when i was hooked up, the guy next to me reeled in his squid to get out of the way and got hit 5 feet from the boat by a free swimer. After the whites we messed around the island til about 12 for some calicos and junk. I caught and released a 20 lb. black sea bass. The crew was very helpful and did a great job.

Thanks for the report Nick. Sounds like yesterday was the "You should have been here yesterday" day.
Prediction: By this weekend Catalina will be a total zoo and the bite will slow down some.
