I just received the new chronarch ch100 bsv. This thing is sick. I noticed that there is thick Crisco-like grease all over the place and in the worm gear. I heard for better performance to take rubbing alcohol and clean it, then apply reel oil. Is this true or is the Crisco a good thing.

I would just leave the grease but clean the excess off. Oiling the worm gear increases freespool on a non-disengaging levelwind reel such as a Calcutta 400. You will gain no performance from removng the grease on that.

Get some Q-tips and rubbing alcohol and clean the spool shaft and spool raceays. There is some excess oil and grease usually from assembly. The reel will freespool better when you are done

Yep done that and got into a good buzzbait bite with it tonight. It sits low on reel seat, casts great and is my new favorite reel. I'm very happy with the performance of it and my other chronarchs are like second class citizens now even the mg. Just another tackle ho on tackle crack:-)
