What size rods do you guys use to throw frogs? Do you use a different rod for open water applications than you would for throwing up onto mats?
I realize that frog rods are usually long for increased casting distance, but what sort of action should I be looking for?
I don't think I could spring for another rod right now but if I could get some examples of rods that would be good for throwing the frog I might be able to find something that I have that will work. I have been using a 6'6'' Allstar titanium MH (AST786C) a Chronarch and 50lb Power Pro. Could I use something as long as the Loomis BBR964C? I don't know...
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I frog fish alot and my favorite rod is a Fenwick HMG AV med/heavy. Great rod for frogs and only around $130. I love this rod. The loomis frog rod weighs a ton so I dont like to throw that one. This is also great for walking frogs. Sean
I use either a Kistler Helium 7 footer in Medium Casting(for lighter weight 'frogs') or their Heavy Casting, 7' 6" model for extra heavy baits and/or extra 'heavy' pads/vegetation.
My backup rod is a 7' Fenwick Techna AV in Medium Heavy action.

I use a V-rod, VCA610H- it's a little shorter then what some guys throw, but it's a broomstick and does the job with the 65 lb. PowerPro- can't wait to get to Santa Margarita in August The rod is 6'10" and definetly fits the bill as a frog rod

I use a Graphite USA FR80XH and a Lamiglas 806 over heavy cover and open water. Both rods are 8 foot flippin sticks. I want to try the Lamiglas 797 also, but those two rods have been doing the trick. 65 pound powerpro works for me also.
you guys catch fish in california wiht that big of line? wow... but then again i suppose the bass dont see the line since its out of the water and above a lot of weeds.
Bassnet is right, depending on the tip action, either the VCT610, or VCA610 is a great rod for the frog! I use the old Crucial 7"2MH light flippin stick, best rod ever made for the froggie!!!!
