Yeah, agreed!!! I had the honor to TRADE Manabu Kurita for his Rainbow pattern Mother. He got a custom SLOW sinking 13 inch Tool, 4 piece and also a 13 inch soft tool.
That's awesome. The only tragedy with that thing is the whack paint job. Doll that thing up like a trout, it would be even more interesting :) I wish I had one even with the big red stripe. $400 isn't in the justifiable range for me, but it's a cool lure. 10.5oz is getting it on.
Mine should get here tomorrow. Not thrilled about the paint job either, but maybe it can be fixed.
What's the deal with the feathered hooks on Japanese baits? Anyone had any success with those? I'm thinking the first thing I'll do is take that crap off. It looks weird.

Newmoonbite - Cool story. What rod/reel/line setup are you using to throw the Mother?
Nico - I'm not wild about the red colored tails on these baits. I've assumed the feathers are used to hide the hooks and provide extra attraction. Think Matt Peters (painted trebles) and Zell Rowland (dressed trebles) to the extreme. I'll post a picture of the used Mother I bought in Japan. The previous owner trimmed the top and bottom edges of the plastic tail and glued rabbit fur along both edges.

Rabbit fur, too? Add some antlers and it could be a turduckelope.
Have you caught any largemouth on yours? Mine will definitely see some water very soon. I'm sure it won't swim right until it's bounced off a few rocks.
The paint job looks better in person, I wouldn't change a thing, and the rainbow reminds me of the Mt. Lassen fish, big red blood bands and cheeks.
My Deps 250 Sliders have feathered hooks front and rear, and they get BIT. I think it hides the hooks WELL, but I dunno, sometimes I think it looks like fins twitching during the retrieve. The red feathers might look like bloody fins?? Or maybe it's the latest craze like feathered earings?? Doesn't matter as long as the fish like it, I do.
Oh yeah, I throw that Mother on the Graphite-USA Monster Mag custom by David Conway. Dave, I need more of them rods dude!! Paired them up with a TE 400.
Nico, I forgot how to catch bass........unless they have stripes.
