Anyone been to Stevens Creek lately...any tips or reports?

I haven't been here recently but word is out that the trout bite has been decent. Bass? Well, from personal experience not so great. They are in there but very hard to put a solid pattern on. Let me know if you ever do figure out the fat green ones.

I went floating tubing there with a buddy after work Tuesday (the 20th). Got on the water about 6:00pm and fished until we got tossed out (we were off the water and packing up when the ranger came around to make sure the water was cleared...just in time).

We fished straight across from the boat launch and towards the dam. Trolledand twitched various streamers from fly rods as we went across and along the far side, under trees, etc. Flashy woolly buggers, slumpbuster, aztec, etc.

I cast a small popper that's worked great on other local waters, but got nothing...not even a nibble.

Something jumped around us a couple of times, but no nibbles for either of us.

Wind picked up towards the end of it so kicking back across took longer than expected.

A couple of folks fishing powerbait on the dam said they caught a few trout and some kid (maybe about 7 or 8 yrs old) fishing with his dad near the boat launch caught a small bass on (I think) a real worm (not a plastic one). The kid was pretty excited....heck, he did better than the two of us combined.

I spent 6 hours on the water last Saturday (17th) while taking a kayak intro class. Saw some folks fishing out of kayaks and tiny boats, but no tubers. I heard a couple of fish splashes (jumpers I guess) but nothing consistent. That was from 10am to 4pm.

Lots of great coves across the lake but they're quite a ways for kicking over to unless you put in somewhere closer to the picnic areas (not sure if you can do that but it should work since folks fish the banks there and that should be enough room to launch a tube, right?).

Faster access is part of why I was taking the kayak intro class...a nice compliment for the tube.
