Just heard from a friend that they started stocking the Santa Ynez River with trout. Curious if anyone can confirm this or if anyone has been up to the river to try their luck? Thanks, Charlie

Hey, thanks for the info buddy. I thought it might be muddy after all of the rain recently but I have not had a chance to drive up and take a look for myself. I hope it clears up soon. I love fishing the SYR more than any other place in the world. It is an old childhood favorite. Charlie

though its closed now, Avila and Arroyo Grande creek is in your neck of the wood and its regulations keep it ia nice little fishery.lots of mid size trot ,no crowds and the chance of a steelhead. If it wasnt for the extreme winds i would hit up lopez tomorrow or Cachuma.have you ever fished that lake i think its above cayucous?it has Steelhead in it. i hear its opening soon.i would like to go but have no idea were it is. :-(

I hit SYR yesterday just passed the last parking and the river is full, clear, and fishing well. After catching a couple small perch at El cap, I decided to go over the hill and ck out good ol Red Rock(1st time in 5yrs) and throw flies for bass and truck trout. Found a good run and seam, and started nailing em on egg patterns and caddis nymphs...to my surprise some of the fish looked real clean...dare I say native? But most were obviously truck trout but clean and still had most of their fins! 1st had my girlfriend throw a panther martin for endless short strikes, then had her put a crawler on, and couldn't keep em off the line. All fished released to the dismay of people around us who couldn't buy a fish on Power Bait! Strippped buggers, leeches, and streamers in slow deep water for smallies but no takers. The river looked so good at times I forgot I was fishing SBC! Paul
