Fished Hot Creek on Saturday, Sunday and Monday of opening weekend. In general conditions colder then usual. There was still small snow patches on the valley floor (not at creek level) in shaded spots. Weather went from hot and sunny to cold over cast and windy in no time and back and forth. Not to unusual for the time of year.
Fishing for me personally was pretty good. I ended up with 11 fish on Saturday with about 20 hookups. Not a great ratio but when your using #20 barbless flies, you lose fish. That includes one quality fish broken off and a couple that let go right at the net. Sunday was slower, with windy cold most of the day. I still ended up with 9 fish landed. Monday was a scouting day for next year and only fished about 3.5 hours for 8 fish, with three pushing 17 inches. The rest of my crew had a handfull of fish each day between them. I was sticking them pretty good and they were struggeling. I think I outfished the other 3 guys about 3 to one.
Crowley report - Our other group trowled Crowley all three days. 4 guys fished all day Saturday for less then 20 fish, never got an exact number. That would be a slow opener for me in the past as I usually go between a dozen and 20 myself, just in the morning. Sunday was horrible for them with only 5 fish on the boat all day. Never heard about Monday.
