Nice pics. Given decent weather the wife & I will be driving up Saturday morning for a little session from the bubblehole rocks. I'll be fishing the crappie jigs mostly but will also bring an 8' stick for tossing the plastic. Hoping to score some smoker fodder :D

Tight lines,

Cool...

Good luck...FYI, the locals were all fishing the bubble for a good part of the day when I was out last...They said before lunch it was doing very well on both macks and bones...

I got bit at the bubble later after they left but did not land...I tried flylining a live bait first, and I let it drift with the big, 360 current out to calm water and then I got zipped...

Funny you should mention those...ya know, I still have some of my old splashers from back in the day. Big wooden dowels with an eye in each end painted red & white.

Actually, I was talking about the warm water bubble that is right by the sportfishing landing pier...But I am glad it brought some interesting memories...

I do know about the method where you use a splasher rig with a cast-a-bubble or back in the day, as you remember, a dowel splasher...

A couple of trips back, I saw a guy fishing a long, skinny surf rod off of the long jetty, and he was fishing a splasher rig with success...It was neat to watch...

I read that this ia a time honored method...I am glad you remembered this rig and brought it up!

Will they throw me in jail if they catch me fishing off the short jetty?

Fishslayer,

I just talked to the Harbor Patrol and they told me that we are not allowed to fish on the short (east) jetty...

Oh well...It looks so promising too!

Looks like you had fun! I've got to try my flyrod one of these days. I took my 10 and 12 yr old boys out from 2-4pm Sunday 1/7. They caught 8 bonies on a Pins minnow and a Smithwick minnow, drifting and casting on 6lb line. No bait required! One sandie on the bottom on the 6" sluggo rigged on a 1/4 leadhead.

Nicely done Mike!!

That looks like a lot of fun. We keep talking about trying King Harbor on the fly for Bonies but have never actually done it. I think your pictures may have inspired me. Thanks for posting them!!
