Actually about 35 miles north of Morro Bay.

We went back for the midweek between storms albacore bite again. Went on about a 275 heading and found fish at 40 miles. We first started trolling feathers (zuchinni) and my cousin Mike picked up a 70 lb. bluefin. Trolled around for the rest of the day with nothing. Finally around 1:30 pm we saw some good marks so stopped, chummed, and soaked bait. The albacore went off and in about 2.5 hours we had 10 fish most of them in the 40 lb. class with the smallest over 30. My cousin Josh got the biggest albie at 54 lbs.

Dangit Pete, last minute eh? How come I didn't hear anything about this? I talked to Paul about getting my blank and he hasn't ordered it yet, and he's going to colorado for 2 wks. today, so he can't order it until he gets back.

Sounds fun to me. What kind of gear on the bait fish, were they eating the big stuff? Just curious, since I'm stuck in school and have a pregnant wife who could go any time.

At first we were throwing 30 and 40 lb. and it was working fine for about the first hour or so. Then all of the sudden we stopped getting bit yet everytime we'd throw out a bunch of chum we'd see boils. Josh suggested switching to 25 lb. and sure enough we got bit on the 25.

Line size joey. 25#, 30# and 40# test. (In saltwater, there's different sized gear for different sized line, and consequently, different sized fish...).

Yeah, it's about time. It's about my 9th or 10th trip on my cousins' boat and this was the first "wide open" bite I've been in.

A picture of my cousins 70 lb. Bluefin is on page 38 of this week's (Dec. 1) W.O.N.

A correction to the text - it was actually Mike who caught the bluefin and Josh who caught the 55 lb. albacore.

Hey that's pretty cool, I was wondering if that was the same fish you were talking about. Nice fish!
