Hey, wanna thanks you guys that responded to my post before about needing a cheapie combo. Well, I scored on a good pole at a a closing out k-mart. Was checkin out the fishin section, when a Pen Big Water caught my eye. Thinkin to myself that I couldn't afford 90 bucks at the moment, the messed up bar code pushed me to buy it even more. (it was calling my name) Hey, no tag, no price scan right? My bf then bought a cheapie shakespeare pole for $17.99. I just loved the girl at the counter. Looked at the poles, said "Well, they're the same size" So she double scanned the Shakespeare. I couldn't help but laugh on the way out. Should I be feeling guilty? Hey, there were 15 people behind me and I saved 70 bucks. *shrug Anyway, I now need a good reel to match it. By the way, it's a heavy action 15-50 lb. Hey, maybe I'll go to that k-mart aagin... maybe that girl will be there again.

It's all about those messed up bar codes. My buddy got a Shimano TLD 30 II Speed at Sportmart for $230 (reg $330 + tax) due to a similar situation. I've found my best deals have come off of e-bay, just by watching auctions a lot, I've found a lot of good deals.

I am not familiar with the rod you purchased, but, if you are fishing 25-30 lb. test and want to go cheap, get a jigmaster 500. If you want to use 30-50 lb, maybe a penn 4/0 or a single speed TLD. Lots of stuff cheap on ebay too.

How's the shark fishing been?

P.S., Get the phone number of that girl at K-mart and forward it, she sounds like good marriage material :) LOL.

I seem to be gettin a lot of responses and good references to the jigmaster. That's what I was actually thinkin about. Do you know the price it runs for? I really haven't been looking for a reel, so I haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure if I look, I'll find it. I'll try ebay too, thanks.

$59-$69 New. Bigfishtackle.com has them for $59.99. I've had my jigmaster for 14 years and it still works great.

I have a Jigmaster 500L I'll sell for $25. It's in decent condition. I haven't used it in years. Just pulled it out last night and thought about selling it. It felt nice and smooth. If you can't pick it up you'll have to pay for shipping also (probably around $5).

And about the shark fishin, snapped my last heavy pole, so I haven't fished for sharks for about a month, but once I get a new reel, I sure hope I break it in with at least a 4-5 footer.

At which Sportmart store are they $169? $200 here in SB. I have one of these and it is my favorite reel. I would pick up another if I could find them for $169. I think SharkGirl was looking for something a little more heavy duty for the big sharks though.

Yup, I think 15 max line's a little too light for the pole I have. It's actually 15-50 lb. But I would probably put either 25 or 30 on it. I guess I'll end up goin to Big Fish. Juan promised me a good deal on a combo, but I guess I gotta tell him I found me a rod already. He was actually supposed to make me a custom in a couple months but I guess that would have to wait. :P
