I live in Arizona and travel to San Diego once a month to usually fish the bay. I have a hard time finding Fish Trap or Big Hammer lures. Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase these either online or by mail order?

I tell you what, I live in Northern California and it's almost as bad. I can't find them anywhere around here and I have looked EVERYWHERE on the net trying to find anyone who was selling fish traps or big hammers, and no one had any. All I can find is AA's which I don't like. Let me know if you find an online source.

I too have had trouble locating Big Hammer and Fish Trap swimbaits, especially in the styles that I need. I know of one online store that sells them, bigfishtackle.com, but you have to buy them in bulk. Their website only lists Big Hammer swimbaits but they also carry Fish Trap as well. I suggest calling them to order rather than ordering online, which can be a pain as far as specifying style and quantity. Hope this helps.

Rob your clearly not looking hard enough. They sell Fish Traps at Hogan's in Concord, and I know for a fact they sell them at SportsMart. Emeryville marina has them, I assure you. Hi's in Frisco doesnt sell FTs they sell somekind of swimbaits, i think they're kalins or something, pretty soft in anycase. Shoot I see them everywhere, I don't think anything of it. If you want I can pick you up some and send them your way, or we can go fishing or something, let me know.

Also http://www.bigfishtackle.com has big hammers in boxes of 50 for $36. Check 'em out, although I've heard shady things about big fish tackle...

Leif

Arent Fish Trap Lures located near San Diego bay? Maybe you could pick some up from them before you go fishing. I posted a similar question on a different board becuase I wanted to order some specific patterns directly from them. If you are out of state you can get them directly from Fish Trap. Rob, I dont know if they still sell them, but my aunt gave me some FTs in the green sardine color for my birthday a few years ago and she said she got them in a shop in Santa Cruz.

Tom, I called Fish Trap direct. They told me they are not set up to sell to the public, but I could call them back on Friday and they would let me know where I can buy some. They have a small web page with all of the colors they produce. Check it out. www.fishtraplures.com

You can get fish traps and worm kings from Squidco in San Diego but suggest that you use AA baits on 6lb test.I like the babypus which is an octopus like thing thats kills Spotted bay bass. The great thing about that bait is that you can fish it like a grub or you can dead stick like you were fishing bait because the tenticles will move with the slightest current. Other species eat 'em like crazy too. I can't tell ya how many halibut I've hooked up on these.I use the smallest size they make. Most colors work well but I favor charteuse/bronze.
