What a day to forget the GPS. Heavy fog kept guest Henry Ortega and I near the Dana harbor until the fog receded a little (about 8 am). Until then, we fished the Dana Pipe for 2 calicos and a treefish. There was safe vessel to vessel/vessel to rocks vis but it was no good for shore bearings, so that's why we waited. We ran north to a couple boilers for only one fish. I think the surf was too small and water too clear for that bite to go. We fished a couple deeper spots from 50 to 80 feet for a sand bass and a short lingcod. Again, the water was too still and clear for plastics--maybe even too still for live bait as there was zero current the whole time. No wind and glass slick out and back with water temps 64.4 at the harbor and 67-69.1 north. All fish caught on 5-inch Big Hammers on 3/4 to 1.5 oz Fishco heads. We had nice marks everywhere but they didn't want to go--my guess is the lack of water movement. All fish released.

The ocean is like a lake and the water very clear. Surffished Salt Creek in the late afternoon for only a few dink perch. Had to use squid for bait since hardly any sandcrabs around. I found only 3 sandcrabs (after much digging) and did see a few corbs, but they wouldn't bite. A few kids snorkeling said they saw a legal flattie out there...may need to get the spear. Weather has been beautiful!
