#10501, "Whoaaaa Mexico!"

I'm finally able to take the kind of trip I've been wanting to for years. A buddy of mine and I are going to drive down into baja for 1.5-2 weeks and fish & surf it up all over the place...sleeping in the tent I just bought...and eating vast quantities of the fish we catch.

My buddy & I just started to research different locations in baja for fishing/spearfishing/surfing and what I'm hoping for is for anyone with SPECIFIC information about locations to perhaps offer up directions (and related info) about different spots either on the pacific or gulf side of northern baja california. I'll either be renting a vehicle or taking my own down. If you mention a spot, please state whether or not a 4x4 is necessary, or if a regular SUV (i.e. 4x2) could handle it.

We're going to bring the surfing mexico book (or the like) for reference as well. My spanish is poor-to-bleak but my buddies is actually quite good, so we should be able to get around without any hassles. We already know about Mexican fishing licenses, car insurance, and the declaration for entry form.

We may take our kayaks if we can find a way to transport them safetly. Longboards (and my 7'2" shortboard for the 6'-9' stuff if we're lucky) are definitely going as well. Two BIG ice chests are going, one packed solid with blocks of ice and taped shut.

So...anyone have any location information for me or other things I should be aware of before we cross da border?

thanks in advance,
F.

This may not help you much but then again it may.
There's a book out called "Into a Desert Place" by Graham Mackintosh. The book is his account of walking the Baja peninsula from San Felipe south to Cabo then back north to San Diego. WALKING!!!! It's unreal and a great read.
I've dreamed of making such a trip as the one you're making. But this book was as close as I'll get I think. It's got great info and a real flavor for the local color. Give it a try.

Enjoy your trip! :) I'm jealous.
Chris

don't be afraid to bring a stack of old Playboy mags, they work wonders with the Feds and stuff, even got us a tank full of diesel fuel when the gas stations were out- better then cash when you are in a pinch, just my 2 cents

Abreojos, more butts then you will know what to do with, along with some really fun reef\point breaks, bring everything you need though-

What ever you do plan your trip with Lola. Blindly going down there and not knowing if theres swell sucks.

Save a wave, Ride a surfer.
