While I was up north I picked up some of these Gitzit swimbaits. A lot of folk were using em at Nacimiento and doing pretty good at the tournament. They look awesome, and I decided to try em out on the sandbass today. Analysis- I really like em, but I hope they make a bigger one. This bait is like 2 inches, but it's killer. Pete, I think you'll dig em. You too Ed, they'd probably slay those bay bass. They kick really well, at really slow speeds, have fins so they look all realistic, and molded leadheads. I'm pretty into it. So, I went droppin pilings today in the Harbor, and the bite didn't really turn on until 5:45 or so. I caught a couple grass bass until that dang cold thing set in. What's the deal with this "cold"? I missed a few fish, farmed one or two, and got 2 on the dock. I liked the bait, the only problem is with that small of a leadhead, the hook is pretty wimpy so it bends pretty easy if it gets snagged. They ain't too cheap either, I think it was like $2.79 or something for a leadhead and two bodies. Pretty sweet though. Anybody know if there's some bigger ones out there?

Brian,

Those baits sound pretty good. With my success at the end of last year with the crankbaits I don't think I'll be fishing plastic too much this year. I found a lure building shop while searching for good crankbait hooks (I settled on VMC 9623PS) that sells crankbait bodies. I bought a few including some 7" that look really good. I imagine I'm going to be throwing crankbaits quite a bit this year.

That lure building store is at: http://www.staminainc.com/

They can special order any VMC hook made.

They also have some really nice buzzbait and spinnerbait components. I just got finished custom making about 20 with my "screw lock" trailer keeper.

Awesome. I came across a custom lure painting website, I forgot the address. I also found a site with these guys that fish the fastrac in Baja, I'll look around tonight and see if I can find em.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-21-01 AT 10:20 PM (PST)

http://www.bajadestinations.com/tackle/rebels/rebels.htm There's the fastrac one.
http://www.hughescustombaits.com/ There's the custom paint job one. Maybe they could do like a mackerel, or a white with red squiggles or something. Or maybe just a super realistic sardine.

Brian,

I was doing really well last fall on a Clown colored bait (white belly, chart. back, pink head). It caught my biggest hali of the year (27") and the 30" seabass I caught right next to the wharf that jumped numerous times (I thought it was a salmon) hit that lure.
