#6382, "Manhattan Bch report"

Went for a surf Friday afternoon and scored some fun waves in Manhattan Bch. While surfing I saw some Corbinas cruzin' the shores so I decided to hit it at dawn Saturday morning. Saturday morning I hit North Manhattan Bch at about 6:15. Saw a bunch of the red 'tuna crabs' on the beach so I decided to try them out. 1/2 hour later...... NOTHING. There are lots of sand crabs here so I switched it up. Within 5 minutes, BOOM, fish on, a nice size perch about 14 inches. Lately I've been catching only small 6"-8" perch so this sucker was a nice suprise. Very next cast, BOOM, another one about the same size. About 15 minutes go by and now I get a solid strike, this ain't no perch, I'm thinking, yeah baby, my first Corbina of the year. Everytime I think I'm gonna land the fish it makes a run for it. Finally, I see the fish, its long and I'm thinkin Corb. NOT! A nice size Croaker about 16 inches. In about three hours I was able to land 1 yellow croaker, 1 sandshark, and 6 perch. I kept 2 fish and fried it up and watched the Lewis/Tyson fight that night. While cleaning the fish, I found the red crabs in the stomach of the perch. Still waiting for the elusive Corbina. Maybe next time.

Did you see any sign of the Shellback tournament while you were at Manhattan Beach. It was supposed to be Saturday, from 8:00 to noon. I am just interested how many turn out for it.

Sorry, no signs of a tourny. There were a couple other guys fishing, one was a fly fisherman and I think he did pretty good as I saw his pole bending quite often.
