Does anybody fish a Catala 400 for bass? I'm looking for a moderately priced reel for fishing 15-20 lb line and this seems like a pretty good one. Give me your 2-cents. Thanks in advance and tight lines!

The catala is a decent reel for the money. You should get the 300 size for 15# and use the 400 for 20#. If you want to switch lines/use it for both, just get the 400 and an extra spool from shimano. The 400 will hold more than enough 15# for bass so that's why I suggested using the 300 for 15#. Personally, if you're getting one bass set-up, 15# is a good all-around test to use.

I fish a Catala 300 and am pleased with it. A definate step up from the Corsairs I was fishing, certainly not a Calcutta, but then again those are a $100 more. I have two and spool one with twenty and the other with fifteen when fishing the calicos. Dave B.

I use the Catala 300 for fishing the rocks and shoreline for bass and halibut in my float tube. I have never used anything more than 12# on the reel, but it is capable of larger line. It has a butter-smooth drag and performs well in all other functions too. Good choice for a moderately priced reel... Then again, I always choose Shimano because it's my personal favorite for many reasons. But that is a topic for another thread.
