#10119, "Spinning rod for swimbait fishing?"

Okay, I know that most (all?) of the folks who regularly throw swimbaits use casting rods, as do I. I understand the reason for doing so and also realize that most of the rods marketed for fishing swimbaits are casting rods. I've got a friend who got hooked throwing big swimbaits, on 8 - 9' spinning rods, at northern pike in the Baltic (he was stationed in Germany) and wants to get outfitted here. The sticky part of it is that he has tried to use casting reels and just isn't into them...he'd rather stick with spinning gear.

Here's the question. Can any of you recommend a spinning rod in the 8 - 9' range that would work for throwing swimbaits from 1 - 3 or 1 - 4 oz?

Thanks!

You should take a trip over to www.trophybassonly.com and contact Fish Chris. He is just about the only guy I know who uses spinning gear for swimbaits and he should have it all dialed in as far as what to use.

Actually I bet more people use spinning reels for throwing swimbaits than any other type of reel if you take into the account that plugs used for striped bass such as pikies, dannies, and such are really the first wake baits and there are probably far more surf fishermen than there are that target trophy bass. The advantage of using a spinning reels is the ability to go slow as well as casting in windy conditions. I would personally look at the Rainshadow SW1087 & SW1088. Both are 9'

what kind of rod meats the 8 foot max for tournament rules? For funfishing I like long rods.
