When I install my pump, does it have to sit vertical in the water in order to function properly? Or can I just hook up a hose and toss it in the water?

I have also given this some thought but have not tried it yet. I was thinking of extending the power leads and hose so that the pump can be dropped down 6+ feet so you can pull water that is cooler for the fish instead of just pulling water off the surface. I am sure this would help in the summer time heat; my only concern would be that the pump was able to pull/push water from that depth. This is just a thought, but if anyone has tried it please let me know how it works.

I tried hauling a sunken fish basket from my tube way back when. The main problem with having anything down lower than your fins is it will hang up and you won't notice it until either it has stopped you or you've destroyed it. Tight lines, Wade

JC is also working on an idea like Pauls and it is a good ides.
On a side note I am in the process of making a small box/cover that will go around the pump. I have noticed a ton of weeds/slime getting stuck in the pump and when i make the box I will use screen around the box to allow water to flow in and catch the other stuff that goes in the pump.

Thanks a great thought John. I know when we're fishing Clear during late summer/fall, there tends to be so much alge and other junk in the water that by the end of the day my pump is having issues. Hate having to pull it apart during the tournament to clean off all that junk.
