Well, I fished my first federation tournament this past Sunday. They run a great tournie. Prior to the draw I met and talked to fellow SCBBC member Terry Cherney. It was nice to see a familar face and fellow club member.
On to the details. I drew Doug Okazaki as my boater. We were boat number 3. I told him I hadn't been on the Delta since July but I had a few spots I thought fish would be staging. He had prefished the day before in almost the same area I wanted to fish. The two spots were in the middle Delta and only about a two minute boat ride apart.
We started on his spot first. He missed a couple fish on a Senko. I was throwing topwater hoping for a big bite. After almost two hours and an empty livewell he suggested we try my spot since his spot didn't really produce until the afternoon.
We got to my spot and found the water much clearer. We both started throwing Senkos and putting fish in the boat. We ended up catching about 30 keepers between us. My best five went 16.50lb with a 5.3lb kicker. Doug's best five went 14.25lbs with a 4.8lb kicker. All of our fish came on senko's except for one blade fish I caught that didn't help. I tried flippin, cranking, rippin, and topwater for the big zero.
I had a great time and was happy to be representing the SCBBC. I'm going to be fishing as a traveler and hopefully I will get lucky enough to make the state finals. I encourage all of you to come out and fish these federation tournaments. Sometimes it's tough to get started so if you have any questions I would be happy to try and answer them. Talk to you later, Pat Wilson.

Thanks for the report Pat. I fished all 5 Fed tourneys last year and they where great. It helped big time fishing the back deck. I'll be fishing the last ones when these ABA tourneys are over. Hopefully I'll see ya there. How did Terry do?

Terry did great. He caught a lot of fish he just didn't get any good ones. I just got lucky. Without any prefish I guessed where I thought the fish should be and they were there. I felt pretty good that my boater got 14+lbs and I got 16lbs out of the same little area.
John, my schedule this year looks like this. I'm fishing the two northern(Clear-April/Delta-May) Everstarts, the Federation Folsom 052204/Delta 060604/Sonoma 081804, and the three BASS Opens.
Hopefully I will add the Federation State Championship at Shasta to that list but since they only take 20 guys in the travelers division I think it could be hard to make it. I'm not holding my breath that I'll do well since I can't prefish most of them.
Hey Jay, thanks for the kind words. I don't know if I can compete with Dobyns (who can!!!) from the front but I have found my nitch in the back of the boat. Being a pro is a lot harder than it looks. Still, it would be awesome to play in the Majors!!!Here's to keeping the dream alive. Tight lines, Pat Wilson.
