#1523, "Letter to bass Pro mag CEO Jonny Morris"

Hi Gang

I received the wrong pontoon boat again. Here is the letter
I email his admin to give to him.

Dear Bass pro shop

This email was to compliment the wonderful service I received when I bought a
pontoon boat on January 25th via online. Note this was the first thing I have
ever bought over the internet. The boat was shipped on the 26th and I received
it on the 30th. Your team was wonderful about the way they followed up by
called me to comfirm my address and sent emails with shipping info "KUDO's" to
them. The service I received made me looking forward to getting back online
to order a trolling motor and a fish finder and of course misc stuff for my
new pontoon boat, I even joined a floatube club in my area.

Then after I opened the box and found I received the wrong boat. They had sent
me a older version and I ordered the 2001 model shown in the Bass Pro 2001
spring catalog. Note there is a difference between to models because two of my
fellow fisherman have the 2001 model and the older model. And I have no problem
with returning the boat and receiving a replacement. Called 800 line the next
morning Jan 30th, spoke with a Ben Russel who asked me a few questions about
what I received and said he would have a look into my problem and get back with
me. Also note I have been in customer service for 25 years in the high tech
Silicon Valley area and get back to my customer the very same day. I took me
a few calls three days later to track Ben down. He told me he had the warehouse
guys open a box of the new pontoon boats and saw the difference. He said he
would ship the replacement but the very next day.

I thought I would get the same delivery responce as last shipment, but I did
not. I called back the following thursday to find the box was between the
shipper and the warehouse and could not change shipping per Mary Grob. She
gave me the tracking number and I checked UPS via website and found that
this tracking number was not valid. I called back that friday and was told
by customer service person Terry that the box was still in the warehouse and
had not shipped. I had planned a fishing trip with my new club but had to
cancel due to I did not want to use the boat that was sent because I could not
return it. So the weekend left me very disappointed. I finally received the
boat on Feb 14th and when I opened the box and received the WRONG BOAT AGAIN!!.
I'm hoping that this problem will be handled in a timely manner.

Gene
I thought your letter was very well thought out and well written. Good points!
I very nearly bought that same boat through bass pro shops as well and I was also aware of the differences between last years model and this years after talking with the Outcast reps at the San Mateo Show. I'm really sorry to hear that they did not send you the correct one.
I would also like to offer, if you want, the use of my float tube this weekend at Naci if you would still like to go. It ain't much, just a Lew's round tube, but I could bring it and a livewell if you still want to go.

I would also like to share my kickboat ordering experience as it was similar except for they sent the right boat.
I was researching kickboats and decided to buy the J.W. Outfitters Renegade. I found it for sale on a half dozen sites and was comparing the various options/prices. Every price was listed as $599 for just the kickboat, with accessories such as cargo deck, stripping basket, padded seat, etc listed as options which you could buy for more money.
Then I went to the San Mateo show and talked with the Scientific Anglers guys, who own J.W. Outfitters and who themselves are actually owned by 3M. Apparently they had just bought J.W. Outfitters and the way that the boats were packaged had changed. The new price was $699 but came with cargo deck, padded seat, and striping basket.
So then I call up roundrocks.com to order my boat, mostly based on the fact that their website was least cheezy of the ones that I looked at (always a good indicator of the kind of service you are going to get). Long story short, the guy I talked to was very cool, but if I hadn't known tha the boats were coming in this new configuration at the new price, I know there would have been problems. They drop ship all of their kickboats, so I had him call Scientific Anglers to verify the options and the price. Sure enough, unknown to the guy I was talking to, the price was now $699 and the boat came with all the options. Since the price on the website was in error, the guy was cool about it and didn't charge me shipping. That combined with no sales tax coming from Utah, made it a pretty good deal. The boat arrived 7 days later which was about as expected.
So overall a good experience, but a fine line between having things go bad and having things working out. Moral of the story, do your homework, but also cross your fingers. I know I would have got burned on the bass pro thing too.

That's cool, at least you're going fishin. just fyi I removed your post from some of the other boards. I left it on the main board and in here. I thought it was a fine post, but I don't think it needed to be on all the boards.
