While talking with a freind this past weekend I brought up the fact that the Suspenders are the only way to go. He questioned as to how legal they are at 70 miles an hour. Does any one have any input on the Suspenders being totally legal at tourneys?

Hey, Rich. I checked before the BASS Clear Lake tournie last spring. They are OK for tournies & are USCG-approved. I have to admit, though, that I wonder the same thing - if you crash at 70 mph, how are you going to deploy the CO2 canister?

A lot of guys in BASS use them. I think the expensive versions are water-activated (I recall a story about somebody's suspenders inflating when he left them in the bottom of his boat during a heavy downpour). I have the cheap version -- you have to yank a cord to inflate (actually, mine is even cheaper than that -- it's worn like a belt, and after you inflate it you have to stick your head through the hole). But since we're going < 5 mph (with a good breeze behind us), I guess that's OK. At least until we get run over by a Tr-22 doing 75!

I hope mine is still good but I do have the expensive automatic one. I figure if I'm fishing with guys with bass boats and you are thinking of safety, what is YOUR life worth??? I'll spend the money for safety ANY day.

My 2cents.

Thanks guys, Santa brought be the pull cord style. They sure beat the heck out of the big vest I was wearing last year. Just a reminder, if I die while fliing at 70 MPH in a bass boat while out doing what I was born to do then so be it. I would love to die fishing:)
