#23683, "Clear Lake Invitational"

Ive never fished this lake before where its actually suitable for a tube. Last time the wind was way to crazy.

Are most people going to be driving to spots and fishing there, or fishing right out of the park?
Is there any good fishing inside the park there and around the ramp?
Any places close enough to row?

Also, what kind of structure is there in and around the park? Docks?
wood? weeds?

Any maps?

sorry for all the questions, Thanks,

Jdub

Hey Jared,

Lots of great stuff at State and if you haven't fished it much, might be the way to go. Primarily there is weeds, tulles and a little wood right at State. If you go south towards Soda Bay, you have lots of rocks and some deeper water (you will have to do a little rowing). If you happen to go North, you'll end up in County Park where there is some rock piles (the county park launch ramp is made of it on the sides), tullie islands and points.

There are also sandy areas, creek channels and hidden "lakes" within the tulles if you can find them.

Your red rattletraps are often the ticket and you can cover a ton of water with them. Dropshot like mad. Don't ever forget your blades on Clear Lake! Jigs, cranks, worms, senkos, you name it they'll catch fish.

Hope this helps a little. If you have a chance go and ask Scott Green. He's one of the reasons I'm halfway decent at this lake! :+

Todd

Went out today just to check out the area before this weekend. Looks good inside that launch area, but outside it doesnt look to good.

Are there any other places around state park that have the same vegetation as it does by the launch ramp?

Also, if anyone would be kind to share. Which way would be the best way to go if you were looking from the launch ramp out towards the lake?
Right or Left?

Thanks,

Jdub

Both directions going out towards the lake hold fish and believe it or not this time of year the stuff outside the creek will produce more fish then inside. I know I'll be spending sometime out there over the weekend

Jared,

Was wondering, do you have electronics? If so, try to find some weedbeds adjacent to deeper water. Usually they can hold good numbers of fish and will repopulate throughout the day.

John's totally right, both ways can be good. Remember, right now there are some huge schools of shad roaming around and most of those are in a little deeper water (compared to the creeks). Not to say the creeks wouldn't hold fish but I too would not put all my cards in those areas...

Oh, thanks for the complements earlier! If it wasn't for all these guys on the board and others in the club sharing info, I wouldn't be in the position I'm in today. Thanks to EVERYONE for helping me! :)

No i do not have electronics. WHen i was out there yesterday there were baitfish ALL OVER the surface. You could not go anywhere and not find them. I could always tell where my baits were because they were jumping all around it.

I was asking which way was better because i didnt venture out to far and where i did go (which wasnt far) was all very very shallow. ANd since i havnt been on the lake before really, i didnt know if all places were that shallow.

Since i dont have the electronics i want to find some good shoreline, and fish in out and off of that.

Jared,

If it were me, I would head to the right if you're looking at the lake. If you far enough you'll hit Soda Bay and there is some deeper water over there along with some nice rock shorelines. Actually, there is just a whole bunch of good stuff over there and I do believe there will be a better opportunity to catch some bigger fish (although there will undoubtedly be some good fish caught right there at State).

When I was talking about baitfish I was thinking about the little bigger shad. I think those that you were scaring were silversides (pretty small and thin, right?) and you really need to fish under those. Can't say I haven't caught any good ones doing that (with a blade - remember what I was telling you earlier this year) but those quality fish were right at first light. Hint, hint. :D

Now you better not outfish me!

Got off the phone with Scott Green and he and Gary Dobyns stuck down South on Monday and had some fun just tearing up the fish. Nothing huge but just fun from what he was telling me.

I think im gunna trust you on this one todd and go down south to soda bay. But instead of launching out of the marina right there i think i might launch at the beach on the far south side of state, that way it will be less of a hassle and less far to go.

Also, are there more docks down there? and kind of stupid, but how will i know when i hit soda bay?
