#15991, "wild weekend"

While headed down to the National Bass tournament at Castaic Saturday I spun out on the freeway and did a 180° turn with the boat on the back. I was now facing oncoming traffic on the shoulder of the slow lane.
I felt lucky that I didn’t wipe out and hit the center divider. While I was calling 911 this guy in an old Toyota Hatch back doing like 50 comes across the bridge and hit his brakes (It’s snowing) and slides right towards me. My buddy Rob had just enough time to jump back in before we got T-boned. I jumped out and got in front of this guys car cuz he’s trying to leave. I ended up having to jump out of the way as he sped away. I called 911 and they said there was nothing they could do because we weren’t injured. There were something like 20 accidents within 5 miles of me. 45 minutes later a CHP shows up and tells me he can’t take a report or do anything about the hit and run. Because I couldn’t see the guys license plate because it was full of snow. So after I get turned around I decide I should still try to fish the National bass….Bad decision. I bombed it. And to make matters worse my insurance said that they are not going to cover me.
What a fun weekend.
-Shane

Sorry to hear about the drama!!
That sucks, How's the boat?
Nothing pisses me off more than a hit & run, I was hit on the 5 fwy @ 70 mph one time & followed the P.O.S. for 45 min. talking to various law enforcement with the exact location of the offender & still couldn't get any help?

Good thing there were no injuries, I guess things could have been worse?
Why isn't your insurance going to cover the accident?
Better luck in the next tourney Bro!

Josh

I have or I should say had Liberty Mutual Ins. I was covered bumper to bumper for everything except uninsured motorist property damage.
I only had uninsured motorist physical injury. It is my own fault for not reading through the entire policy. I thought I was covered for any and everything. At least my Skeeter was untouched. Let this be a lesson for everyone else to make sure that they’re insurance will cover stuff like this. I’m lucky the idiot didn’t hit the boat. I might have ended up in jail if you know what I’m saying....

-Shane

Hey Josh did you ever end up getting that bass boat from your Dad’s buddy?

Sorry to hear about your accident and insurance situation. Just wondering, what kind of insurance do you have?

Man, that sucks. Hope you have better luck with the insurance in the future. I hate having to take the 14 and the 5 to get to Castiac. Can't tell you how many times I've almost died or became seriously maimed trying to get to the Valley from my house when some idiot runs me off the road or almost nails you at like 90 mph. Its almost like nobody knows how to drive here in the AV(or anywhere in SoCal, for that matter). x( Anyways, maybe I'll se you around at the 'Fin man. The bite shlould be good once the snow stops and the fish get back into prespawn. If not, good luck in your tournaments man! :7

Bass + Fisherman= BAASS ADDICTT!!!

Maybe it's better to find out about the insurance now than in a more serious (injuries) situation?
Hope it all works out.

No, didn't end up buying the boat but someone else did. Kind of bummed I didn't jump but while in storage someone had hit the trailer doing some decent damage creating even more of a project than I need at this time?
My brother & I have been going though the 26' the last couple months getting it updated & ready for a few more seasons. I've also been putting time in on my Dad's 18' CC, dialing it in for fishing the inshore SW Bass tourney's, gonna use that instead. Guess that's enough for now?

Good Luck!
Josh

Sorry to hear of your experience on Saturday. At least you and your buddy are alive and well to fish another day! :) CHP still should have taken a hit & run report regardless whether you had a license plate or not. Insurance companies require a report for you to make a claim. I think that officer was just being lazy. I was at the NBW tourney on Saturday and blanked too. :( Oh well, maybe next time. Are you gonna be at the 3/25 tourney?

Yes I'm going to try and fish the remainder of the tournaments. The bite should be better for me next time.

I'm gonna try to make the 3/25 tourney if I can get the day off. I hope the bite gets better for me. We'll see...
