Fished Cachuma on Sunday and had to deal with the trout derby crowds! I did manage to catch about 20 fish ranging from 2 to 4 1/2lbs. Of the 20 fish only 2 were smallmouth. Most came on drop shotted worms and jigs and also lost a swim bait fish that hammered my Osprey! Fishing is starting to slow down up there with the fish finishing up the spawn. All my fish came in alittle deeper water where I was targeting post spawn fish. I am thinking about a trip to Lopez, does anyone have any news on this lake? Are the fish finished spawning or are tghey just beginning?

A club that I know just fished Lopez last weekend. The bite was good overall with ripping Rattlin Rogues and 6 inch drop shot worms getting most of the attention. From the sounds of it, these fish may have partially spawned, but the bite indicates a new wave heading up. Good Luck.

Went to fish for trout Tues. the 16th. While trolling toward the back of Santa Cruz bay with a spinner and worm for trout - hooked up to a small small-mouth. Anchored on the log boom and when reeling up the first trout of about 12 inches had a HUGE bass ghost up behind it. It was so big it made the fat trout look like.......bait! Keep throwing those big baits as this one would have been fun!
