Got this dumb idea that maybe I could take my kickboat to the alameda rockwall to fish for striper and halibut. Anyone ever done it? Is that a bad idea to take a kickboat out in that area (tides/wind/etc)? Just looking for a change of pace.
This is the place I'm talking about: http://fishit.freeshell.org/rockwall.htm

Rob, You know I've been wanting to do that too, Let me know when are you planning to go, I might join you, my friends said I'm crazy if I do that, but if I did it and do good they will follow, I think "Extreme" is the right word }( ..

I put up a post on the coastside board to get more info. My main concern is current, and how far is it to the fishing areas. There's a ramp close to the rockwall, and it appears that the area outside the rockwall would be at least somewhat sheltered from a NW wind which is the prevailing wind, but I've never been there so I'm hoping to get some better info. I'll post again if I'm going to go try it. Probably Sunday AM.

Good luck, that side of the bay as you probably have figured out can have some major wind problems but they are usually semi-predictable. The currents haven't struck me as killer the few times I've been in that general area except on the one time I was their for a +6' tide swing. Of course I've only been out there in a 15' boat with a 50Hp so the kickboat might change my perspective. You know I've kicked in some harry water and this area would have me looking at every safety measure, just like when I hit the ocean. I'd go in the early AM and abort at the 1st sign of trouble. On another note, you might try over near San Quentin as it's a fairly protected area near the prison.
