I agree 100% with dickthompson. I've had my loomis for about 5 years now and I have no complaints. For the smaller stuff I use a rod that no one else seems to be using....The Loomis SBR864 This is the heavy spinnerbait rod. I can't tell you how many fish this rod has caught.

A little over your budget , but I think you should check out the custom swimbait rods at Performance Tackle, in Los Alamitos. In the late 90's when I introduced swimbait fishing to Japan, there were ZERO big swimbait rods on the USA market. No Loomis, no Shimano, not a single big swimbait rod. Back in the day, we (Rob included) use to use saltwater rods, because they were the only rods that could handle the weight of the large baits we cast.
From the beginning, I had to develop specialty rods to fish the big swimbaits here in Japan. Marc Higasshi at Performance did the same. No builder in America has anything close to the experience that Marc has, and his company and mine are the only two, to my knowledge, that design and make their own blanks. Marc has several swimbait rod styles; it would not hurt to at least give Performance a call and check out what they have to offer.
This is not spam; I do not offer my custom rods for sale (can not keep up with the Japanese demand now), and I am not affiliated in any way with Performance Tackle.
Just my 0.02ï¿¥. Good luck with your search for the perfect swimbait rod whatever you choose to buy.
BTW, you asking a question on a board like this is an extremely good idea, as many (Rob, Carrot Top, etc) have been throwing the big baits since before it was popular. Asking people with experience like this can only lead to you acquiring a rod that is very well suited to your individual needs.:-) "Known as the person who introduced swimbait fishing to Japan"
