I received the LuckyCraft catalog in the mail last week. They have a few new baits.
I have a few StaySees, Pointers, and one Bevy Shad. I like the Staysee and the Pointer. I think they have great action and have caught many fish on each. I'm wonedering what you guys think about all their different baits; rip baits, topwater, Rat-L-Traps, deep diving crankbaits, etc.? Are they worth the extra money?
What about the hooks? I've had tackle dealers recommend changing the hooks if I'm fishing for Stripers. If I'm paying upwards of $15.00 per bait, the hooks and split rings should be strong enough to hold a 20 lb. fish! I know on cheaper lures (Rapalas, Excaliburs, Normans, etc.) the hooks are poor, and should be changed for largemouth fishing.

I actually have some of almost all of them (including the brand new one!!!) and love them all! I do admit I'm a little timid throwing them in thick cover (nothing like cranking brush and wood!) but still think they're all great baits. The ones I use most are pointers, staysee's, and LV 500 (rattletrap style) although I have caught fish on the flashminnows, bevy shads, and sammy's. If I didn't care about money I would use the cranks more but tend to lose too many where I like to throw them.
I have not had a problem with the hooks although I have heard of a few people replacing them. Then again I have not caught any 20lbs stipers with them either.
Come to think of it I can't even remember losing a fish with the stock hooks. That's pretty good!
