Matzatlan.

Sunrise in Mazatlan.

The inshore scene in Matzatlan is an inshore anglers wet dream(literally). It looked like SD bay, Mission bay, and Florida mangrove waters all mixed together. There was manmade and natural rock structure everywhere and it all appeared to be virtually unfished. I would have have fished it myself but I had booked a big game trip already. I will fish there properly before I die.

Here are some Matzatlan flavor shots,…Got Jetty Worms.

There was a lot more but, I had to go fishing. Here’s some flavor shots from the fishing boat.

After meeting the fellow passengers, the crew, and driving 90 minutes,… we put out the trolling rods. We all chose rods. I had the big rod with the big marlin lure. If there was gonna be a billfish caught today, it was gonna be mine. The boat and poles were pretty ghetto considering the price($150 for 6 hours). The first fish was caught on an old lead head with some a small piece of white yarn attached to it. Here he is;

Nice bonito(3lb average) were busting everywhere all day. Some of the anglers started getting restless and wanted to try to catch the bonito. Unforunatley, for them I was the only angler who could speak any Spanish, and I wasn’t about to pay $170 to catch bonito(no offense bonito)so we continued searching for big game. After a while the same ghetto yarn lure caught this;

Now we had 2 fish in the boat. Several hours later there was a 3rd hook up, but the bikini model(her pole) and her husband insisted that I land it. They were afraid to lose it. So, after a heart felt thank you, I grabbed it and this was the result.

Yes, a 5lb Dorado on 100lb test is pretty cheesey, but I’ll take it. He was better than nothing and I thanked those two folks everytime I saw them on the ship, for that fish. He jumped the whole time, making him all the easier to reel in. We drove home sporting this.
