Rob isn't the only guy who can get the trout! I spent the past weekend up in the Monache Meadows, on the South Fork of the Kern, near Kennedy Meadows. My Dad and I have gone there for years in search of golden trout on fly rods. The good news is the fish were there and willing to take hopper patterns and the traditional dry flies: parachute adams, caddis, and a parachute hopper (my favorite).
The bad news happened when my roommate and I tried re-starting his truck on Friday night, 15 minutes after we arrived. Dead as San Diego lake in winter! To make a long story short, we had to replace a battery and alternator. We had to drive back and forth to Ridgecrest to get the parts. Actually, my Dad escorted us back and forth...a 6 hour ordeal! We got the parts changed out, and back on the road. My other big bummer was losing my wallet somewhere on the Jeep trail out to Monache....I am bummed on that one...fishing licenses, credit cards, atm, ID, etc....
I enjoy a little fly fishing here and there, but this trip made me want to stick to the paved roads and crowded launch ramps!
