#1020, "March 15 & 16 - Shadow Cliffs"

I was in training this week soooo, don't tell the boss but we got out early yesterday and today and I went up and tubed in the back ponds at Shadow Cliffs. Thursday I stayed in the first pond all day. My second cast I caught a dink on a Mann's Mid 1-. Worked around the lake and flipped 4 more on a black/red jig. All of them were 1.5 pounder type fish. Fun to flip 'em out of the wood! I got up towards the top of the pond and missed one on the jig. I threw back with the crank and banged another little guy. A few minutes later I got into them pretty good. Started with a 2 and a half that ripped me with about 5 feet of line out. Couple casts later I throw across a windy point and the water swirls. I set but came up empty. Things didn't feel right though so I started winding like crazy. Caught up with her and brough in a solid 3-14 on the scale. I was having fun. Shortly thereafter caught another 2 something and called it a day as it was getting late.

Day two I decided to check out the main lake first. They had planted on Thursday. Water visibility was around 15 feet. I walked out on the docks and watched the schools of trout. Even saw some of the "thunder" trout. Only problem I see with these things is they are not planted small enough. They need to plant a whole mess of 7 to 10 inch "thunder" trout. That way the bass can see them from about a mile away and show them what thunder really is. har! Well in addition to the trout there were numerous small males around the docks, all 1.5 to 2lb clones. After getting in my tube I came up on one dock and saw literally 20 of these males in a school. The came right up to me to see what I was. Some of them were so close I could have touched them with my rod tip underwater. They wanted nothing to do with ANYTHING I threw at them. There were two females about 3.5lbs in with the 20 or so males. The males were following in them around and alternately moving over bedding type areas. It was a little bass mini-drama. Well the real drama was when I got a funny feeling and looked to my left. There, not more than 10 feet from me was a giant. The fish was in the 9 to 10 pound range and fat as could be. She saw me, I saw her, and we sat there for a bit before I moved my rod and she bolted back under the dock. That was cool. So needless to say I got skunked on the main pond like always so I headed back to the island pond. Couple casts into it I hookup a dink on the mid 1-. Here we go again I thought. Stuck with the crankbait the whole way around the lake and picked up 6 more, mostly 2 pounders and one a little over 3lbs. They were bashing it! One fish hit me as I lifted the crank out of the water and splashed water on my sunglasses. Missed that one! I was having way too much fun. The sun hid behind some clouds around 4:30 and that was pretty much it. Met a nice guy named Scott tubin the back pond. Post a reply if you find your way to the site :-)
All in all some good fun fishin. It's gonna be buzzbait time soon!
