#1680, "Ummm, fishing???"

Yeah so I got my butt off the couch and out on the water a few times. In fact, a number of times. Here's the reports as I can remember them.

Santa Barbara Back Country
Went backpacking in the ole SB mts. around Mono Debris Dam. I was going to spend the night up there but got over it and hiked out the same day. I ended up hiking about 18 miles round trip but could have shortened it to about 8 if I hadnt been a jackass. Okay so enough about that sheat. I dont know what stream I fished, pretty much any stream with water will have fish, the way I look at it. I flyfished and caught a handfull of smallish (6-8") trout, mostly on a gold bead head hares ear. There were a decent number of fish in the stream but the ponds had hardly anything because the "endangered" (I must have seen a billion of the damn things) Western Pond Turtle would eat all the trout. Basic summary is that it was hard to fish but there were fish there.

Ventura Mts.
On a whim, which is usually how Jamon operates (rational thoughts and planning arent my strong points), I decided to head up a stream out of Fillmore. Okay, couple things wrong here already. There is no overnight parking, there is no trail, and its private property. Enough said, I packed in for the night and didnt see another soul. There were some awesome looking ponds there but not many good fish. I caught a couple on the fly which was tough work (mostly because I suck ass) and eventually tied a 1/32 oz Panther Martin to the end of my fly pole and it was game over. Nothing big, the largest being around 8".

Sierras
So here's the plan. I go up to the Sierras, do a little backpacking and fishing, and head home. No headaches no hassles, not much gear. So then my family invites themselves along and its game over. They end up filling my car with gear and killing almost all my plans. Here are the spots I hit quick though (I have to get back to saving lives right?).
Head waters of Crowley-Mostly in the tank, a couple small ones
Mesquito Flats river/lakes-Pretty good on the fly for brookies and a couple of rainbows. Saw one big rainbow. Also caught a small brown and a small golden.
Irrigation Ditch outside of Bishop-My brothers "secret spot" which was way in the tank.
Owens River near Bishop-At least it wasnt an irrigation ditch
Pleasant Valley Reservoir-That irrigation ditch is looking pretty good right about now
June Lake Loop-Should have stayed at the irrigation ditch. (Note to self: If bored, hitting over a stump that ends up having a hornets nest in it is ALWAYS a bad idea).
Summary: Tank on the Sierras mostly. Mesquito Flats was really cool though and worth a visit. Everything else was bunk.

East San Gabriel River
Packed this for a night on a whim. The road was paved so I should have used a bike but oh well, live and learn. The first 1/4 mile was a spectacle of slummy trash. The dirty diaper count without looking held steady at three. And for those of you confused on the issue, bagging your garbage and leaving it by the side of the road doesnt mean you are picking up after yourself (sorry, probably no one gets that one unless you fish places around LA). Okay so I hiked back six miles and camped over night. Fished in the morning till about mid day. Largest fish seen was only about 8-9" rainbow. Lot of smaller ones though. Its all catch and release barbless
