#11006, "Report: Southern Cal PM 1/2 Day-10/19" Mon Oct-20-03 10:14 AM by gimme
Got to the landing parking lot at 12:00. Parking was really, really hard to find. We finally found a spot when the AM 1/2 day trip returned with some bonito and bass. Left the dock at around 12:35 with 20 anglers onboard. Fog was really thick while we were heading out. We got pretty damn close to a sailboat. First stop, the fog was gone, but the dog was around. Capt. took off trying to lose the seal. Second stop, we had a steady pick on some nice size bonito. Flylining sardines was the key, but one nice bone head was caught on an iron. Guy next to me got hooked to a big fish, took em' around the boat once or twice, and it turned out to be a nice size yellow caught on 15lb. test flylining. some people also caught whitefish on dropper loops. the seal came back, so capt. took off again. next stop, we got into a slow calico bite.Fog rolled back in, and it was around 5:15 when the captain called it a day. all in all, it was a pretty day on the water. once again, southern cal was great along with its awesome crew. deck hand was there when you needed, and ed made me a bad ass cheese burger on the way home. i only landed one bonito and lost a few. 1 calico, and a couple of mackerel.
