Float tubed East Goleta this morning with friends Brian and Bryan. Overall it was a relatively slow day. Fished the falling tide from 6:00 - 9:00 am. Worked very hard for a few strikes that were most likely perch and/or white croakers. Caught a small white croaker early on the 3 inch Hammer and hooked what was most likely a short halibut but it came unbuttoned after a minute or so. Bryan was able to find a couple of short halibut and a nice Angel Shark on the crankbait. Just when I thought the day was going to be a bust I found a nice 7 lb. (27 inch) halibut. Throughout the day I was trying many different retrieves with the Hammer. The conditions were beautiful and there were almost no weeds in the water. The swell was also very small so we were able to stay very tight to the shoreline. I was able to use an extremely slow bottom bouncing/dragging retrieve which is what got me the legal halibut.
