Surffished Salt Creek at 5pm. Conditions were good, but unfortunately still lots of weeds. Dug up a lot of sandcrabs, and found a somewhat weedless area on the far north end of the beach. On the first cast I get slammed and the fish starts running hard...this is no perch. It makes a number of nice runs and in the distance I could see some large splashes and a big tail. The fish then starts sulking, so I walked far up on the dry sand and gently surfed it in. Didn't weigh it (possibly 5 pounds), but it was a solid 23 incher with some serious girth to it...my largest ever Corbina! I normally catch and release them, but since I have had such bad luck on them this summer as well as the fish having a spear wound on the top of its back, I decided to keep it. The baked fillets were delicious with a hint of crab flavor. After catching and releasing only barred perch and small sharks for most of the summer, I'm glad I finally got a trophy Corbina!
