New Brighton is a fantastic place and I'm so glad I'm a member here because I heard about it off this board.

Here's the recap about how it went down.

Had to tube it because could not find the tie downs for the yak. Kicked out by the cliffs at 6:50 A and was bouncing a green flake scampi tipped with a squid strip to see if there were any halibut around. Got whacked by something strong and it dragged me around. Brought it up to color and hoped it was a white sea bass but it turned out to be a dogfish shark. Kicked it all the way back to shore to take some pics and released it.

Went back out to the spot and picked up a rockfish. I forgot they had spines and while I was trying to get the jig out of its mouth, it flopped and punctured my seat cushion. Barely made it back to shore before it fully deflated. Threw it in the cooler, grabbed the spare cushion (I like to sit high) and kicked back out to the spot. Tried working some birds a bit further out; ran across a large school of 'chovies. Jigging through it could not get past the croaker (I think, or they might have been drum) that were so thick. Every drop was a hit. No halibut at all, just croaker.

Finished off the day with some more shallow water rockfish. Will try again this Friday on the yak if the weather holds out. It was beautiful - calm seas, light breeze, and the sun came out ~11AM.
