#4754, "Santa Barbara Local Report For 2/9"

Well, based on the winds predicted for today we chose to drag the boat up to Santa Barbara, because of the way the mountain ranges are set up there the offshore winds don’t effect the local waters near the coast the way they do everywhere else, that said so while everybody else was getting there butts kicked by the wind we enjoyed a very nice day off Santa Barbara with little to no wind till around lunch time when the wind got up to 10-15mph out of the southwest. Well enough about the wind! Today I had my brother Scott and my good buddy Michael (Hawk) along, and I decided to stay very local today, and we started out off Ledbetter for a few sandbass, and when the current kicked in from right direction (uphill and out) we headed over to the Onemilie for a look, and found a decent pick on mixed bass, we had good current for about two hours during which we got a couple of good flurries on the calicos with Scott getting the big fish of the day a 3.7lb calico, when current slowed so did our bite, I talked to a friend that was down off Carpinteria and said it very slow down there so I decided to play connect a spot on the half dozen or so spots I have out front there. When the southwesterly picked up we went back into Ledbetter for some wind drifting and found a good pick on the sandies when you allowed your swimbait or in Scotts case 5in assault skirted twintail (he was whackin them on them) to drag on the bottom.
Today’s totals: 55 mixed legal bass 30/70 sandie/calico mix with most of the fish taken on 4-5in bighammers and an okay handfull taken on the 5in assaults, with pretty much every color working on the swimbaits and amber red/black flake on the assaults, all lures were spiced with calico cocktail (procure)
So if anybodies looking for a nice place out of the wind to fish tomarrow head up to Santa Barbara! And wave when your going by I will surf fishing up there some where :-)…..Larry

Real fish are measured in pounds - not inches!
