Tell your wife 1/2 day isnt enough. LOL LOL You can take one of the 1/2 day boats, or fish right from shore. The surf perch are doing well right now and a high low rig with a very small sinker #6 hooks, and mussles or worms, (sand crabs are the best)..

Think light light light. I would use no more than 6 pound test or lighter.
